A Russian surveillance ship was seen sailing off the coast of South Carolina and Florida in the last few days while operating in an “unsafe manner,” according to a report.

The Viktor Leonov, a Russian spy vessel, has since returned to international waters, but raised alarms with the US Coast Guard for engaging in “other erratic maneuvers,” CNN reports.

One official told the network that the ship’s behavior was viewed as “unsafe” because it did not use running lights in low-visibility weather and did not respond to hails from commercial ships, a standard procedure used to prevent potential accidents.

The Russian spy ship has monitored international waters along the East Coast since 2015, according to the report.

A US Coast Guard spokesperson confirmed to The Post that it issued a “Marine Safety Information Bulletin” to alert other sailors in the region of the ship’s presence and odd behavior. The alert was sent out Sunday.
