WASHINGTON — After clamoring for more debates, Bernie Sanders has declined an invitation to a newly scheduled face-off with Hillary Clinton.

The Vermont senator, who has a strong lead in neighboring New Hampshire, won’t attend an unsanctioned Feb. 4 forum in the Granite State co-sponsored by the New Hampshire Union Leader and MSNBC, his campaign said Wednesday.

“Right now . . . we are not participating in that debate because we don’t want to be barred from participating in the debate that is going to happen on Feb. 11,” Sanders spokeswoman Symone Sanders told CNN.

Sanders has panned the Democratic National Committee for scheduling only six debates and threatening sanctions against candidates who attend rogue forums.
