Sandy Hook Elementary School was evacuated Wednesday morning due to a bomb threat.

Someone called the bomb scare in to the school at 9:39 a.m. and students were immediately brought to a nearby school.

Police searched the school and grounds and found nothing, according to Monroe police, but students were dismissed for the day.

In December 2012, a gunman went on a shooting rampage that took the lives of 20 first-graders and six staff. Students from that school have been attending Chalk Hill School in Monroe since the tragedy.

A new school will be built on the same property where the shooting happened but construction won’t start until next spring.
