Students who survived the active shooter at Saugus High School described their harrowing experience escaping gunfire and how friends were “hiding in closets,” reports said Thursday.

“It’s very scary, we heard one shot and then four after and we just started running,” a trembling student told KRON 4 beside her mom at a reunification center set up for students and their parents. 

“All I heard was just kids running and just screaming and calling their parents and it was very sad.” 

The teen, who wasn’t identified, and her mother both said they’re getting texts from friends who are still “stuck inside.”

“They’re texting us that they’re scared to die and they’re hiding in closets,” the girl’s mom said. 

Another student said she and her friends heard the gunshots and started running for their lives.

“We were just like ‘Let’s go, let’s run,’ so we all like ran through the field, we went through the gate because it was open and then we … crawled underneath [a] pipeline,” where construction workers helped them to safety, the teen said.

Early Thursday, a teen boy dressed in all black opened fire at the school in Santa Clarita before classes started, injuring at least five people, two critically, police said.

About an hour after the shooting, authorities said they had located the suspected shooter and that he was in custody and being treated at a hospital for an unspecified injury.
