College students Laila LeRoy and Joyita Davis recounted giving insulin to an 85-year-old music performer who was in diabetic shock as people frantically tried to save drowning elderly people and children after the fatal Georgia ferry dock collapse.

“When we heard that, you know, people were still in the water, or, like, They (said) that people were drowning. That’s when more people started going down there, and they had already pulled some people ashore," Leroy, who is double-majoring in Africana Studies and Environmental Science told The Current.

There was one girl that came that they I saw them pick up, and they carried her to the van to get try to get the heat on in the van. And she, she was young. I know she was young."

The students said they aided in the rescue efforts, and provided insulin to 85-year-old Gullah Geechee performer Jack Evans.

“We gave him insulin. … (H)e started having pain on top of, like, the inside of his rib cage, but he could still breathe. He was mainly just in shock,” LeRoy said.

Woman who narrowly missed dock collapse reveals brutal conditions: 'The current was so strong'

An attendee at the event honoring Georgia's slave descendants spoke out after a ferry dock collapsed killing at least seven.

Rachel Taylor had just boarded a ferry leaving Georgia's Sapelo Island when a gangway reportedly collapsed as Culture Day revelers were waiting for the next boat to come, she posted on X.

"If you pray, please 🙏🏻 for those involved in an active mass casualty on Sapelo Island just now during their Cultural Day festival. We had just left the island via ferry when the pier collapsed while others were waiting for the next one. Emergency vehicles all over. I’m sick. 💔," Taylor wrote.

"The current was so strong. 😢," she added.

Taylor also claimed that the island was only accessible by ferry, leading to first responder delays.

McIntosh County Commissioner Roger Lotson revealed that the dock involved in the Georgia collapse was "less than a year old," Georgia Public Broadcasting reports.

Festival-goers jumped into water to save drowning elderly after Georgia dock collapsed

Festival-goers present at the Georgia ferry dock collapse jumped into the water to try to save drowning would-be ferry passengers —many of whom were elderly, Georgia Public Broadcasting reports.

“There wasn’t a soul who wasn’t trying to help somebody,” a survivor said.

One of the victims was an elderly woman who was using a walker at the time the gangway collapsed.
