Cheese could protect your smile against cavities, according to a study in the latest issue of General Dentistry.
Researchers measured the dental pH of 68 subjects before and after they ate dairy products.
Subjects were assigned to have cheese, milk or sugar-free yogurt, and chowed down for three minutes before swishing with water.
Scientists then measured the pH level of their mouths 10, 20 and 30 minutes later.
The higher the pH, the lower the chance of developing cavities. Subjects who consumed milk and yogurt had no changes in pH levels, but the cheese-eaters showed a rapid rise in pH.
