The Securities and Exchange Commission became the first major federal employer on Monday to require some of its employees to work remotely amid coronavirus concerns, a report said.

The agency announced in an internal email that staffers on the 9th floor of its Washington, DC offices must work from home and pressed others to do the same, according to The Washington Post.

“Out of an abundance of caution, effective immediately the SEC is requiring all Headquarters personnel (employees and contractors) who work on the 9th floor to telework,” the email to workers said.

The SEC, in the employee email, said that they were informed Monday of a worker suffering from respiratory symptoms who may have the virus, the report said.

The worker being monitored has not been in the office since Thursday. The agency believes the employee “remained asymptomatic during” their time in the building.
