The US nearly shot down a second Navy fighter jet over the Red Sea on Saturday — missing it by just 100 feet — in a friendly fire incident.

Not one but two F/A-18 Super Hornets were flying above the US guided-missile cruiser USS Gettysburg during anti-Houthi missions in the region when the Navy launched a pair of surface-to-air missiles from the ship.

While the first US jet was accidentally struck by one of the weapons — with the pilots safely ejecting from the aircraft before it crashed — the second plane took evasive maneuvers to avoid the missile aiming at it.

The surviving jet narrowly escaped the friendly fire by about 100 feet before landing on the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman, Fox News reported, citing a source with knowledge of the incident.

“It was a tanker crew returning to land on the carrier about 10 miles out,” a source told the outlet of the accidentally targeted jets. “They recognized the missile was guiding and punched out about 3 seconds before the missile hit the jet.

“The cruiser almost shot down two friendly jets.”

The Navy is investigating whether one of the SM-2 missiles was accidentally explicitly targeting the second jet and if the Gettysburg had turned off its guidance system at the time, according to the report, which has not been confirmed by the Pentagon.

The jets had been supporting US air strikes over Yemen, where Houthi terrorists have launched three separate ballistic missile attacks on Israel in the past week.

“Forces conducted precision airstrikes against a missile storage facility and a command-and-control facility operated by Iran-backed Houthis within Houthi-controlled territory in Sana’a, Yemen, on Dec. 21 Yemen time,” US Central Command said of the military’s operations at the time of the incident.

The Navy on Tuesday confirmed to The Post it is investigating the friendly fire near-disasters.
