Seoul is no longer a man-eat-dog city.

The last canine slaughterhouse in South Korea’s capital has officially closed — as the city’s mayor vowed to enact a bone-ified ban on butchering man’s best friend.

“Through persuasion for many years, we stopped all slaughter in Seoul,” Mayor Park Won-soon said at an animal rights event Saturday, according to UPI. “We will maintain the city as a slaughter-free place to promote the dignity of animal co-existence.”

He pledged to “use all means to block” the controversial practice, and was met with cheers from animal lovers at the city’s Namsan Park, the outlet reported.

In total, eight dog slaughtering centers at the notorious Gyeongdong Market and Jungang Market were shuttered last week, and three other facilities also closed for good, the outlet reported.

The mayor said he was compelled to end the centuries-old practice of chowing down on pooch meat after watching “Underdog,” a heartfelt animated film about stray pups, earlier this year.

Across the country, the popularity of dog meat has plunged in recent months, with a survey last year showing that 70 percent of residents no longer want to make Fido dinner.

In July, South Korea’s notorious Gupo dog meat market closed in Busan after the country’s largest dog slaughterhouse shut its doors in Seongnam in 2018.

President Moon Jae-in also shed light on the industry in 2017 when he adopted a mutt named Tory, who was rescued from a dog meat farm.

A bill that would completely ban dog meat consumption was introduced in South Korea in June, but has not yet been approved by lawmakers.
