After losing his job in the wake of the 2018 Parkland school shooting, former Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel is back at work — monitoring the footage from red light cameras in Davie, a town north of Miami, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

Israel will earn $65,000 a year to review video from five cameras and go to court if anyone challenges a ticket.

He had connections that helped him land the job, according to the report. Even though he will be working for the city of Davie, the local police chief is Stephen Kinsey, who was Israel’s undersheriff in Broward County, the Sun-Sentinel said.

Some of Israel’s deputies were criticized for hanging back and not confronting the gunman who shot and killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and injured another 17, in the Feb. 14, 2018 shooting.

In early 2019, then newly-elected Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended Israel. Kinsey and four other members of Israel’s command staff offered their resignations afterward.

Kinsey was named Davie’s police chief in September.
