Democratic Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown said Thursday he would not run for president, promising instead to thwart President Trump by continuing to serve in Congress.

“I will do everything I can to elect a Democratic President and a Democratic Senate in 2020,” Brown said in a statement.

“The best place for me to make that fight is in the United States Senate.”

Brown, a liberal with strong ties to the labor movement and a lengthy record of fighting for workers, cited the number of other Democratic candidates seeking the party’s presidential nomination and said he was confident they would also fight for “the dignity of work.”
