The Illinois liberal who shot and wounded Rep. Steve Scalise Wednesday morning during a GOP baseball practice blasted the Louisiana congressman in a Facebook post.
“Here’s a Republican that should Lose His Job, but they Gave Him a Raise,” James Hodgkinson posted in January 2015, along with a political cartoon depicting Scalise.
The drawing is a play on remarks Scalise admitted he made in 2002 to a white supremacist group.
“When I spoke to a racist group in 2002 it was an innocent mistake. I had no idea who they were,” the cartoon quotes Scalise as saying.
The next frame shows the politician claiming, “I couldn’t see their faces” and standing before a group cloaked in white KKK hoods.
