Two students were wounded in a shooting at a high school just outside Denver, Colorado, on Wednesday afternoon before the assailant shot and killed himself, officials said.

The gunfire erupted around midday at Evergreen High School in Evergreen, about 30 miles west of Denver, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jacki Kelley said.

All three — two students and the juvenile gunman — suffered gunshot wounds and were rushed to St. Anthony’s Hospital in serious condition, according to cops.

The gunman succumbed to his self-inflicted injuries hours later, according to the sheriff’s office.

Another student is still in critical condition, and the third is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooter was a male juvenile who opened fire using a revolver outside the school, though some of the shots apparently made it inside the building as well, the sheriff’s spokesperson said.

Authorities did not specify how old the gunman was, but Kelley noted that she wasn’t sure if he was “even old enough to drive.”

The shooter’s injuries are believed to be self-inflicted. Kelley noted that she “doesn’t believe law enforcement fired any rounds today.”

A fourth person was also injured, though authorities are still working to determine if they were involved in the incident.

The school, with a student population of roughly 900, located just 28 miles outside Denver, was placed on lockdown after reports of “an active assailant” on the campus around noon, according to the sheriff’s office.

The shooting took place on school grounds, but outside the building, Kelley said. Authorities are still working to determine the exact locations of the primary crime scenes.

Parents were being reunited with their children at a nearby elementary school after the frightened students were escorted out of the high school, according to the sheriff.

Kelley assured that there is no longer an “active threat” to the community and said authorities are working double-time to obtain a search warrant for the shooter’s home.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis was informed and said he is “closely monitoring the situation.”

“State Troopers are supporting local law enforcement in responding to this situation. Students should be able to attend school safely and without fear across our state and nation. We are all praying for the victims and the entire community,” Polis said in a statement.
