Two people were injured after a shooting at Virginia’s Old Dominion University that left the gunman dead after a swift police response Thursday morning, according to the school.

He said the fire alarm went off and he ran out of the building, which was when he heard the gunshots.
Police ensured that the students were taken somewhere safe once the shooting started, Hayes added.
The two injured students were rushed to a local hospital following the shooting at around 10:50 a.m., where their conditions are unknown.
At 11:30 a.m., the school issued an update that the shooter had been “neutralized.”

All classes and operations on the main campus have been suspended for the day, ODU said in a statement to students.
The university first put out an alert urging students to “follow Run-Hide-Fight protocols.”
Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger said she was monitoring the situation closely.
“I have spoken with university leadership. My Administration remains in close contact with local emergency responders as state support is being mobilized to assist ODU and Norfolk,” she said in a post on X.
