A gray stallion got loose on a farm in the Czech Republic and managed to get stuck in a well.

The 4-year-old steed, Albert, hopped a security fence and trotted over to inspect a nearby well, but when he placed his hooves on a plastic sheet covering the hole, he lost his footing and plummeted into the freezing cold water below, Central European News reported.

The trapped horse was found when a passerby heard the animal neighing from a distance. Vilem Vasak thought he was hearing things until the frantic cries for help grew louder and louder.

“It was pretty chilly and I had had a few sips of brandy to keep myself warm and at first thought maybe I’d had too many sips,” he told CEN.

“But when I got closer to the well, the neighing became louder and when I looked down it, I saw this horse looking back up at me. It was all very bizarre, but I decided to call the fire brigade anyway.”

After a two-hour rescue mission, Albert was safely pulled from the well and returned to his farm.
