The pregnant Colorado woman allegedly slain by her husband was “so excited” she beat the odds and had children despite being diagnosed with lupus, her family said.
Shanann Watts, 34, was left in a “really, really, really bad place” when she was diagnosed with the chronic autoimmune disease lupus and told she couldn’t have children, she had said in a Facebook Live video.
But the mom persevered and had two kids — Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3 — with husband, Chris Watts, 33, who was accused this month of killing his family.
“I was told I couldn’t have kids and here I have two amazing, crazy, wild children I love dearly,” she had said in the Facebook video four months ago. “Everything happens for a reason.”
The mom was 15 weeks pregnant when she was found dead Aug. 16., along with her two girls.
When she gave birth to Bella in 2013, “She spent every minute thanking God and taking care of her precious gift…” her family said in an obituary published Saturday. “How she loved and cherished her.”
Then, when she had Celeste in 2015, she “Was so excited to be able to have another child because of her battle with Lupus. She was determined to stay healthy.. every moment with her was a blessing.”
The family said Shanann had planned to name the boy she was pregnant with Nico Lee and that “she knew he would be loved by his sisters and family.”
They asked for donations to be made to the Lupus Foundation of America in lieu of flowers.
Chris Watts, who faces the death penalty if convicted of the murders, claimed his wife killed their children after finding out he wanted to separate, investigators said. He allegedly admitted to killing her in a rage when he said he saw her strangle one of their daughters on a baby monitor.
