Three people were injured when a small commuter plane crashed in the backyard of a north Phoenix neighborhood, damaging two homes.
The FAA said the Piper PA-28 suffered a mechanical failure when it went down as it attempted to return to Deer Valley Airport around 7:20 a.m., according to AZFamily.
Three people were injured after the aircraft plummeted to the ground. Fox 10 PhoenixABC 15 later reported that two of the injured were a flight instructor and student on board the plane, and the third was inside one of the damaged homes.
All three men were taken to a local hospital but are reportedly in stable condition.
Several houses in the neighborhood were evacuated while hazmat crews cleaned up a fuel leak at the scene.
The FAA says it’s still investigating what caused the crash.
