A British woman who moved to the US to be with soccer star Indiana Vassilev was left fighting for her life after she was caught up in the crossfire of a hit-and-run shooting in Missouri.

Ellie Bentley, 22, was struck by a vehicle and dragged for two blocks when the shooting broke out in St. Louis late last month, the Sun reports.

The Brit, who last year moved across the pond with now-ex Vassilev when he joined MLS side St. Louis FC, was left with multiple broken bones and had to undergo several reconstructive surgeries.

She spent two weeks recovering in intensive care before being discharged from the hospital over the weekend.

“She was pretty sure she was going to die as she was dragged underneath the vehicle,” Bentley’s attorney, Ben Tobin, told the outlet.

“For the entire time, she was lying there trying to hold on and do whatever she could so she didn’t end up getting kicked out under the wheel.”

“She ducked down behind another vehicle until the shooting stopped, but then the person whose car she was hiding behind floored it, hit her, ran her over, and dragged her for a couple of blocks,” he added.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officials told the outlet that an unidentified 35-year-old man opened fire, injuring a 25-year-old man who was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds.

25-year-old Dionte Taylor, the driver who struck Bentley, has been arrested, according to police. 35-year-old shooting suspect Andre Wilson was taken into custody and hit with multiple felony charges.

It’s believed that the ordeal escalated after a group attempted to get into the wrong car.

Bentley, for her part, was exiting a vehicle near her St. Louis home when she found herself caught up in the crossfire.
