A social media influencer with more than 5 million followers died last week on a birthday trip in Mexico, according to her grieving family.
Kansas City native Alysha Burney, 24, suddenly died in Cabo San Lucas after suffering an asthma attack in her sleep on March 2 — just a day shy of her 25th birthday, her brother told Fox 4 KC Monday.
Alysha Burney’s heartbroken family said she had lofty goals. Instagram“She was not selfish with her knowledge and was a very open book about her journey,” Charles Burney said about his sister. “She will always be dearly loved, and her legacy will live on forever.”
The social media star, who was living in Los Angeles, was popular across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, where she mostly posted video content, including punchy, comedic skits. She also had her own production company.
Her brother said she died after suffering an asthma attack in her sleep, Fox 4 KC reported.
Charles, who was in Mexico with her when she died, disclosed details of her death to bat away ugly “misinformation” circulating online.
“She does not do drugs. She was a self-loving and happy individual who cherished her life and was looking forward to the upcoming year’s plans. She was in Mexico to celebrate her birthday. She was a very classy young woman,” he told the station.
Burney reportedly died of an asthma attack while sleeping. InstagramHer dream was to be a writer and director, and one day open a production studio in her hometown to help other aspiring artists in the Kansas City area, he said.
“Alysha was very goal-oriented, creative, and passionate about giving back,” Charles said.
