ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A soldier convicted of killing his then-14-year-old girlfriend’s mother because she disapproved of their relationship is set to be sentenced to life in prison.

What remains to be seen is whether 22-year-old Army Spc. Caleb Barnes will apologize for the killing.

The (Allentown) Morning Call reports Monday’s sentence is automatic, since the life sentence for first-degree murder is mandatory.

Barnes was convicted last month, after testifying that Jamie Silvonek killed her mother in March 2015 and that he only helped dispose of the body later because Silvonek claimed she was pregnant

But Silvonek, testifying for the defense and already serving 35 years to life, testified Barnes slit the woman’s throat after Silvonek urged him to kill the woman in a series of text messages.

A Lehigh County judge will sentence Barnes.
