A Texas banker is offering $1 million to anyone who can solve a mathematical stumper that he thought up.

Andrew Beal, an amateur mathematician, first offered $5,000 in 1997 for a convincing solution to what is known as the Beal Conjecture. The prize grew to $1 million Tuesday, according to the American Mathematical Society.
