Southern California spent Saturday bracing for aftershocks from a magnitude 4.6 earthquake that rattled the region the night before.

The US Geological Survey recorded the earthquake at around 11:40 p.m., about two miles outside of South El Monte, near Los Angeles, ABC News reported. The agency estimated the tremor was about 11 miles deep.

No one reported damage or injuries.

Seismologist Lucy Jones tweeted that the epicenter was close to the epicenter of a 1987 earthquake with a 5.9 magnitude. Eight people died in what has become known as the Whittier Narrows earthquake.
