Sri Lankan officials have pulled the plug on most social media to prevent the spread of fake news following Sunday’s terror attacks.

Officials aim “to prevent speculative and mischievous attempts to spread rumors,” according to Sri Lanka’s UN ambassador, Amrith Rohan Perera.

The blackout covers Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat and Viber — but Twitter appears unaffected, according to the NetBlocks observatory.
