A mysterious signal from space that researchers said was a strong indication of alien life in a star system 95 light years away was actually just coming from planet Earth.

Red-faced eggheads at the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence program on Wednesday clarified reports that the strong signal came from the Hercules solar system.

Russian scientists had detected the signal coming from the direction of that system — but further analysis determined it likely came from Earth.
