The man arrested last month in connection with the murder of a Connecticut news anchor’s mother pleaded not guilty to second-degree homicide charges.

Shawn Conlon, 44, entered his plea at his arraignment in Brattleboro, Vermont, on Friday.

Conlon was arrested in Connecticut in late December –10 months after 73-year-old Claudia Voight was found dead in her home on Feb. 20.

Investigators initially thought Voight suffered a medical event, but an autopsy later revealed that she was murdered via neck compression.

Voight’s daughter, NBC Connecticut anchor Heidi Voight, announced the circumstances of her mother’s death in August.

“My mother’s death was not natural, nor peaceful. My mother was murdered, violently, in the place she should have felt safest,” the former Miss Connecticut wrote.

Conlon had rented a room in Claudia Voight’s home, but stopped paying rent in late 2022, Vermont State Police said.

He remained at the residence into 2023, before allegedly attacking and murdering Voight.

Conlon was initially arraigned in Connecticut before being extradited to Vermont on Friday.
