A South Carolina man was killed Tuesday after getting into a 30-minute gunfight with a sheriff’s deputy, authorities said.

The man, who wasn’t immediately identified, first got into an argument with a neighbor about a traffic or speeding-related issue Tuesday afternoon, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

As a deputy made his way to the neighborhood in Huger to respond to the fight between neighbors, he saw the man’s vehicle speeding, and stopped him.

The driver took cover and started firing at the deputy, the statement said.

The windshield of the deputy’s vehicle was riddled with about a dozen bullet holes during the incident.

The man allegedly also shot at SWAT and other deputies responding to the incident.

Eventually, the man was killed. No other injuries were reported.
