That’s one lucky fowl!
A swan trapped in a storm drain on Long Island was rescued thanks a team of cops — and an eagle-eyed 5-year-old girl, according police and video footage.
The child was walking with her dad on Lake End Road in Merrick on Wednesday morning when she “heard a strange noise” coming from under the street, Nassau County police said in a press release.
She followed the squawking sound and discovered the bright white bird in distress, prompting her dad to call the cops.
With the help of wildlife officials, Emergency Service Unit officers lifted the drain grate and scooped the feathered critter up with a net, according to wild video footage posted on the Nassau County Police Department Facebook page.
Facebook“Alright buddy, you’re coming [out],” one of the men can be heard telling the animal. The freed bird then flaps its wings, and an officer picks it up.
The bird appeared to be uninjured and was placed “under evaluation” later in the day, police said.
It was unclear how the swan wound up there.
