Newly obtained interrogation tapes show an ex-Disneyland princess denying she had any connection to her then-fiancé’s twisted double murder plot to pay for their wedding.
“The truth is, I did not know,” Rachel Buffett — a community theater actor in Costa Mesa, California — told detectives in 2012 before she was convicted six years later for her role in the slayings, according to ABC News.
In November 2018, Buffett was sentenced to 32 months in prison for lying to investigators to cover up ex-beau Daniel Wozniak’s murders in Costa Mesa.
Wozniak, also a community theater actor, was sentenced to death in 2016 for murdering 26-year-old Afghanistan war vet Samuel Herr and 23-year-old Julie Kibuishi just a week before his wedding.
Prosecutors said Wozniak killed and dismembered Herr to steal his money to pay for the upcoming nuptials and honeymoon. He then allegedly killed Herr’s friend Kibuishi to make it seem Herr had murdered her, then vanished.
After making withdrawals from Herr’s bank account, Wozniak was arrested and placed a jailhouse call to his fiancée, pleading with her not to tell police about the evidence against him, according to ABC News.
But when Buffett was brought in for questioning, she repeatedly denied any involvement in or knowledge of the crimes.
“I was not involved and that truth doesn’t change,” Buffet told investigators in the tapes obtained by ABC News.
