You can’t have your cake and eat it, too — but it will taste better after everyone sings “Happy Birthday,” a new study shows.

Crooning a tune or performing other rituals before digging in leads to greater enjoyment, says the report in Psychological Science.

“We found that people’s attention is piqued when they perform a ritual and that helps them to be more involved in what they are eating or drinking,” said a researcher.
