A Texas elementary school teacher who took a photo of her foot on a black student’s neck and texted it to the boy’s mother last week resigned Friday, according to a report.

The Lamar Elementary teacher in Greenville, northeast of Dallas, whose photo drew outrage from the 10-year-old student’s father and school administrators said that she used the photo as a mock threat when the student failed to turn in a homework assignment.

The teacher, who was not named, was immediately suspended after she texted the photo to the boy’s mother on Tuesday — the same day Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted of the murder of George Floyd, who died after Chauvin placed his foot on his neck for nine minutes.

Although the child’s father told a local reporter that he was outraged by the “staged” photo, the mother said “I didn’t think anything of it,” in an interview with an NBC affiliate.

School administrators who suspended the teacher during their investigation last week, were planning to call a meeting next week to determine whether she should be fired. The teacher resigned Friday.
