A Colorado teen was charged with two counts of first-degree murder Wednesday in connection to the death of a 10-year-old girl who disappeared last week.

The 15-year-old boy accused in Kiaya Campbell’s murder was charged at Adams County court with murder with intent and murder by a person in a position of trust.

Authorities have not released the identity of the suspect because he is a juvenile.

Kiaya was reported missing June 7 after she vanished walking home with her 15-year-old stepbrother in Thorton, news station KUSA reported. Her body was found June 8 in a wooded area less than two miles from her father’s home.

The cause of Kiaya’s death has not been released, but authorities have said her body showed signs of severe trauma.

The case is being heard in juvenile court but authorities will determine next month whether the suspect will be tried as an adult, according to KUSA.
