A California teen girl reportedly died hours after leaving school early because she was sick with the flu.

Gabriella Chabot, 14, returned to classes at La Reina High School in Thousand Oaks after a two-week bout with the illness, news station KNBC reported.

Though she appeared to be on the mend, the teen left school early on Thursday and was rushed to the hospital where she later died, according to the news station.

Chabot’s family said she died from complications related to the flu.

The high school student would have celebrated her 15th birthday on Friday.

Her dad, Michael Chabot, mourned her death Thursday in a tribute on social media.

“Today I experienced the day that no parent should,” he wrote on Facebook. “I lost my daughter… my angel Gabriella Chabot. We are heartbroken.”
