An Arizona mom faces murder charges in the death of her newborn whom she falsely claimed was kidnapped, according to police.
Jenna Folwell, 19, was arrested after her 4-week-old son was found dead inside a black duffel bag at her Chandler apartment, KPNX reported.
The mom called 911 around 1:30 p.m. and told dispatchers that she was putting her baby in his car seat when someone came up from behind, put a bag over her head and took him.
Authorities searched the area and then the mom’s apartment, where they discovered the child dead.
Folwell then admitted to lying about the abduction and changed her story, claiming that she fainted in the bathtub while holding the child. She said the baby drowned by the time she regained consciousness.
Investigators confiscated the mom’s phone and discovered more than 100 web searches that included topics such as “ways to die instantly” and “missing babies cases.”
When confronted with the searches, Folwell allegedly admitted to deciding to drown him. She said she changed her mind a minute later but the baby was dead.
Police arrested and booked the mom into Maricopa County Jail, where she remains held on a $1 million bond.
