An 11-year-old boy in Tennessee has been busted for starting several fires at a neighbor’s home while people were inside, authorities said.
The boy allegedly tried to set the home on fire by igniting multiple blazes on the property just after 4 p.m. Monday in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chattanooga, news station WTVC reported.
When crews arrived, they discovered a car on fire and another blaze in a trash can next to the home, officials said. There was also a cooler on the porch that was in flames.
The fire department said there were people in the home at the time, but crews were able to put out the fires before they spread to the residence.
“Several witnesses provided statements about what they saw to investigators, who arrested and charged the child,” fire officials said in a statement.
The boy — who was not identified since he’s a minor — lives in the neighborhood, but not at the house where he allegedly caused the blazes, officials said.
He was taken to a juvenile detention center on charges for aggravated arson and setting fire to personal property, officials said.
