A Tennessee man has died after he was punched last month in a brawl outside a bar, police said on Friday.

Jamie Mitchell, 52, had been in a coma since the Aug. 23 altercation in front of Rebar by the Dam in Hermitage, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Police said Mitchell was punched and knocked to the ground by 52-year-old Brian Vantassel in the incident.

Mitchell was critically injured and died Wednesday as a result of the assault, authorities said.

Police said Vantassel — who was charged with felony aggravated assault — may face upgraded charges in the wake of Mitchell’s death.

“Hermitage Precinct detectives are in contact with the District Attorney’s Office concerning amending/upgrading the charge against Vantassel in light of Mitchell’s death,” police said.
