A Tennessee teacher was found dead Thursday morning inside his classroom at Munford High School from a self-inflicted gunshot, leaving a small community in shock.
Samuel Colin Day’s body was found around 6 a.m. — well before any students had arrived for classes.
The Munford Police Department responded to an “emergency” at the school, and found Day, 60, dead.
Samuel Colin Day is survived by a wife and son. Munford High SchoolOfficials said in a statement Day died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, students, and faculty affected by this heartbreaking event,” police said in a statement.
“We ask that the community respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time,” added the statement.
Classes were cancelled on Thursday to allow police time to investigate.
Day was the school’s Special Education director.
No students were in the school at the time of the suicide. GoogleHe lived with his wife and son in Atoka.
It was unclear if police found a suicide note.
