Dutch authorities on Sunday grilled an Afghan teen who they suspect of stabbing two American tourists at a subway station in Amsterdam in a possible terror attack.

Armed with a “very large knife,” the 19-year-old, named only as Jawed S., allegedly walked into Amsterdam’s Central Station at noon Friday and randomly stabbed the pair of tourists as they waited at an information kiosk, according to reports.

Local police shot the attacker within seconds and he was being questioned from the hospital on Sunday, local broadcaster NOS reported.

A passerby’s dramatic photo showed two officers pointing guns at a man in jeans and sneakers sprawled on the ground inside a train station.

The victims, who were not identified but are both believed to be men, also remain hospitalized with serious, but non life-threatening injuries, police spokesman Ruben Sprong said.

It does not appear that they were specifically targeted, authorities said.

The US State Department on Sunday condemned what it called an “unprovoked, horrifying attack” and offered its support to Dutch investigators “in our common fight against terrorism in all forms.”

Authorities said they believe this was an extremist attack based on an initial interview with the alleged attacker — but didn’t elaborate on what he said.

The attacker has a German residence permit, and German authorities aiding with the investigation raided his home on Saturday, seizing his computer, USB sticks and smartphone.

He will appear in Dutch court for a remand hearing on Monday.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte praised the police and railway staff for their quick action.

“This cowardly deed shows how important it is to be and to remain alert,” he said.
