COLUMBUS, Texas — Investigators say a 30-year-old South Texas man has died of injuries suffered when he shot some fireworks from his chest.

Justin Bartek of Columbus died Tuesday at a hospital.

The Colorado County Sheriff’s Office says Bartek was critically hurt before dawn Tuesday while discharging fireworks at a fishing spot on the Colorado River.

Authorities say Bartek put a tube-type fireworks device on his chest and lit it. He was with friends when the accident happened.

Officials have ordered an autopsy.

Columbus is 60 miles west of Houston.
