A Texas man has died a week after he was viciously mauled and partially eaten alive by three dogs near his home, his family said.

Nicolas Vasquez, 51, succumbed to his injuries in a Harris County hospital on Sunday after spending the week on life support, his relatives told news station ABC13.

Vasquez had both his legs amputated and suffered organ failure as a result of the June 9 attack, his family said.

Neighbor Calvin Stoy told the outlet he saw the victim walk past his home moments before he heard the dogs, which neighbors described as being a pit bull mix, barking.

He said he found a moaning Vasquez lying in a ditch and had to scare the dogs to try to stop them from further shredding him to pieces.

“Both legs were torn up bad, hands and arms. He had bites on his head. He was in really bad shape. He lost a lot of blood,” Stoy said.

“His one leg was torn down to the bone,” he added in a separate interview with Click2Houston.

The three dogs, which were covered in blood, were seized by Harris County Animal Control soon after the attack.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the dogs were going to euthanized.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said its investigators are meeting with the district attorney’s office to determine if the dogs’ owner should be charged.
