A Texas mom was critically wounded early Monday when she was shot while shielding her 7-year-old daughter during a road rage incident.

The incident took place shortly after 7 a.m., when San Antonio police said an unidentified male driver, believing he was cut off, opened fire on the car with the mother and child on Interstate 35, according to a report by KSAT-TV.

The 29-year-old mom jumped into the back seat to shield the child from the gunfire and was struck in the back, KSAT said.

The woman’s husband drove her to Mission Trails Baptist Hospital, where she was transported to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries, the outlet said.

Cops are reviewing surveillance footage of the incident as they search for the unidentified shooter.

Police have also recovered several shell casings on a highway on-ramp.
