A newborn boy was found abandoned in a container near a dumpster in Texas over the weekend, police said.

Detectives in Arlington are trying to track down the mother of the baby, who they believe was born just a few hours before he was found early Saturday outside the Monterra Pointe Apartments, KDFW reports.

A woman made the shocking find as she took out her trash, police said.

“Basically, the child was just kind of discarded there,” police Lt. Christopher Cook told the station. “When she opened the container, the child appeared to be in distress. So that’s what prompted her call to 911.”

Investigators are reviewing surveillance cameras, including from a nearby school, in hopes of identifying the child’s mother, according to KDFW.

Paramedics gave the child CPR before rushing him to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive, KTVT reports.

“At this point, we just want to identify the mother and figure out what happened,” Cook told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “It’s more important for us to get that information to the hospital, and then we can continue with the investigation.”
