Hollis DanielsAPA police officer at Texas Tech University reportedly was shot and killed inside the police station by a student drug suspect who then fled the scene Monday night.
The officers were performing a wellness check on 19-year-old Hollis Daniels when they discovered drugs inside his room, according to Lubbock police.
Once they took him into the station, Daniels pulled out a firearm and fatally shot an officer in the head before fleeing, university spokesman Chris Cook said.
It was not clear how Daniels brought a gun into the station.
After the shooting, the suspect was briefly on the lam as SWAT was deployed to assist with the search on campus.
Daniels later was found by a Texas Tech officer who “was able to tackle the suspect” and take him into custody, Lubbock police said.
