The middle schooler, whose name wasn’t released, was rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The attacker — which the Killeen Police Department confirmed was also an underage female — was quickly apprehended.

Police are investigating the incident as a homicide.

“Killeen ISD is deeply saddened to share the tragic news that happened at Roy J. Middle School,” the independent school district’s executive director Karen Rudolph said in a statement.

The incident threw the middle school into lockdown, with Principal Fred Lilly issuing an alarming notice to parents.

“Smith Families, we want to inform you of a situation that occurred on our campus this morning. A student was injured and is being transported to receive medical care,” Lily’s message said.

“We understand that this may be concerning, and we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students and staff are our highest priority. We will update you as soon as possible,” she added.

All students were later bussed to a nearby church for pickup.
