Joining the People’s Liberation Army has never been more dope – at least that’s what Beijing is rhyming to new recruits.

The PLA has released a slick, fast-paced, hip-hop-narrated recruiting video that aims to give one of China’s bedrock institutions a modern facelift.

The three-minute video – posted to the PLA’s daily news Web site last week – features a strong rap rhythm and fast-cut images of modern weaponry, missiles, gunfire and even motorcycles driving through flames.

A song played in the piece is called “Battle Declaration,” according to state organ China Daily, which described the video as “an unmistakable effort to cater to the taste of young people.”
