Pic shows: This Egyptian mask was recovered from a flat in Poland after the owners tried selling it online. A priceless 3,000-year-old Egyptian mask was recovered from a flat in Poland after the owners tried selling it online. The nine-inch Mummy mask dating back to 1086-664 BC appeared on a local website in Lodz, a city in central Poland's Lodz Voivodship, where it was being offered for just 4,700 GBP. Experts said if it had been legally obtained with the paperwork proving it was genuine, and had not been taken by grave robbers, it would have been worth millions and should have been sold off at a specialist auction to realise its full value. But after being spotted by eagle-eyed officers, police raided the apartment where they found it sitting on a shelf. Police spokesman Adam Kolasa said: "In cooperation with representatives of the Egyptian Embassy we established it was an authentic archaeological monument." Although the sale of such monuments is not illegal, objects of antiquity need special paperwork and verification documents to prove they were not looted. Kolasa said: "When officers quizzed the married couple over where they had got the mask they said they had bought it at auction in the United States." "They were not arrested but we are now looking into it," he added. Local prosecutor spokesman Jacek Pakula also confirmed: "We shall make a decision on further action in due course." (ends)
