An Indian politician has honoured his region's two hardest working civil servants – a pair of donkeys. Vatal Nagaraj, 59, who is in charge of the Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha political party said: "I don't think anybody can complain about my decision to honour the donkeys, after all they not only work hard, but they are loyal and honest, they never tell lies, and they are also disciplined and obedient." The donkeys were given a special certificate to hang in their stall in the ceremony that took place at the local bus station terminal, and included a photo shoot with local media of the new council employees of the month. A former legislator from the town of Chamarajanagar, 65-year-old Nagaraj said he had chosen to create the awards to mirror a similar award given by the Karnataka state government to eminent men and women from different walks of life to mark the state's formation day. He added: "Why should we limit this to humans, animals deserve praise as well." And he concluded "I will honour other animals every month in recognition of their contribution to us. Worshipping cows and taking care of domesticated animals has been part of our rich tradition and hoary cul
