Actor Eddie Hassell, best known for his roles in NBC’s “Surface” TV show and the Oscar-nominated flick “The Kids Are All Right,” was shot dead in Texas early Sunday during a suspected carjacking, police and a rep said.
The shooting unfolded in the Dallas suburb of Grand Prairie at around 1:50 a.m., authorities said.
Police responding to the incident found the 30-year-old Texas-born actor, who lived in Waco, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Officers rendered first aid to Hassell, who was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to cops.
A representative for Hassell told Variety that the actor was shot in what appears to be a carjacking, although the incident remains under investigation.
Grand Prairie police said the motive was still being investigated, but that a car had been taken from the scene of the shooting and was later recovered.
No arrests have been made.

According to TMZ, Hassell was shot in the stomach outside his girlfriend’s apartment.
Hassell had also appeared in other movies and TV shows including “Jobs,” “2012,” “Longmire,” “Devious Maids,” “The Family Tree,” “House of Dust” and “Bomb City.”
He moved to Los Angeles at the age of 11 to begin his acting career.
In addition to acting, Hassell was an avid surfer and skateboarder.
“Skateboarding’s been a huge part of my life, it also got me cast in commercials. I was into horseback riding and rodeos in Texas and when I moved to L.A., I got into skating. I did all my own stunts. I’m into anything with a board: surfing, wakeboarding,” he said during a 2013 interview with Elle.
Hassell had told Elle that his idea of a “perfect day” was “Hanging out with my family on the beach.”
