Newly released footage shows the moment a Minneapolis school bus driver was shot in the head following a minor crash on a highway near downtown Minneapolis on Tuesday, police said.
The violent ordeal unfolded after the alleged gunman, identified as 31-year-old Kenneth Lilly, drove his Toyota in front of a pickup truck and school bus before getting out of the car and firing his gun, police said.
The footage, obtained by CBS News on Wednesday, then shows the suspect moving between the bus and pickup, where police said he fired at least twice more before pulling the trigger directly next to the door of the school bus.
Following the shooting, Lilly, wearing what appears to be a security guard’s uniform, gets on his cellphone and paces back and forth. When a Minnesota State Patrol trooper arrives, Lilly puts his hands up as he’s escorted into a police vehicle. Cops arrested Lilly for second-degree assault, but he hasn’t been formally charged, according to the Associated Press. Police said they’re still investigating what led to the shooting.
The school bus driver, who wasn’t identified, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was expected to survive. A student who was sitting in the back of the bus at the time of the shooting was reunited with his family and did not suffer any injuries.
