These fuel collectors are a total gas.

With drivers panicking over the fuel shortage at many gas stations this week, social media users documented some of the weirder ways they saw motorists collecting juice at the pump — including filling up water bottles and attempting clumsy heists.

The panic buying came amid the closure of the Colonial Pipeline — the largest refined oil system in the US  — leading to stockpiling, long lines and sky-high prices in many states.

In Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a man was spotted methodically filling up eight fuel cans at a gas station, according to a photo tweeted Monday.

“No need to wonder why there’s a #gasshortage on the east coast. Ole buddy had eight containers lined up at the Murphy across from Tanger 17 in Myrtle Beach,” wrote TJ Lundeen.

A clumsy crook in Georgia allegedly drilled holes in the tanks of parked U-Haul trucks — spilling up to 45 gallons of gas and then bolting, City of Griffin Police Department said on Facebook.

In Richmond, Virginia, a gas guzzler was caught on camera pumping fuel into two plastic water bottles. “That is a WATER bottle…oh my gosh,” said Tiffany Rourk, who shot the footage.

An Alabama couple was also spotted loading up an SUV with six at least gas cans, according to a verified Facebook post Monday — prompting one observer to declare, “The stupidity has begun.”

And another driver loaded up so many gas cans, the containers could barely fit into his compact car, a Florida resident tweeted Tuesday.
