In the animal kingdom, survival reigns supreme. 

1. 1. Hippo grabs lion by its head and shows it who's king

   Hippos typically don’t find themselves being hunted by other animals, despite living in environments full of deadly predators. In this video from Kenya, a lion attempts to hunt a hippo, providing a perfect example of why the big herbivores usually get left alone.

2. 2. Bloodbath after great white shark attacks a seal right next to swimmers

   Surfers fled for their lives after a great white shark attacked a seal 75 feet off of Nauset Beach, a popular family-friendly spot in Cape Cod. At the beginning of the summer, up to 150 sharks had been spotted in the area, a jump in numbers from previous years.

3. 3. Giant whale breaches mere inches from New Jersey boaters

   A group of boaters on the New Jersey side of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge were treated to an awe-inspiring moment when a humpback whale breached mere inches from their boat. Moments like this are becoming more and more common as the gigantic sea creatures seem to be traveling into the waters near NYC more and more often.

4. 4. Horrifying shark attack takes a chunk out of a man's leg

   Parker Simpson was spearfishing off the coast of Key West, Florida, when he was attacked by a reef shark. The shark was most likely attracted by a grouper fish that Simpson was holding at the time, and the resulting bite tore his tibial artery, leading to severe blood loss.

5. 5. Ostrich goes MMA on a former ostrich farmer's butt

   A former ostrich farmer in South Africa was caught on camera getting attacked by one of the giant birds. Luckily, he wasn’t seriously injured and escaped with nothing worse than a bruised ego.
